If only a mere 10% of the 630 OH-58A-D helicopters being divested were to be handed over to the international market, that would generate a significant amount of work for MRO and Customization Centers, not to mention Bell Spare Parts and Services.

Army Aviation Solutions, yes indeed!

The high expectations of the eve, have all been met by this year’s Army Aviation Mission Solutions Summit in Atlanta.

As anticAVXipated, center-stage has been the Army’s FVL Program, with the two selected JMR-TD solutions (Raider and Valor) magnificently on display.

Attention was also given to other solutions the industry is proposing for VFL, such as AVX’s innovative concepts for all Program sizes. From Light to Medium, their helicopters adopt coaxial rotors and ducted fans.

On show several  in-service platforms: Black Hawks, Lakotas, a Chinook, the Little Bird, ……. all of them proudly displayed by their crews.

And the many Operators, MROs, Completion Centers, committed to deliver quality services with decommissioned platforms, which they are bringing to new life with determination and ingenuity.

Update on JMR-TD: Bell V-280 taking form

p1565696via Bell V-280 taking form in Amarillo.

An interesting update of how this new generation tiltrotor is being put together with strategic components designed and produced by three big aerospace players: Bell Helicopter, Spirit Aerosystems and Israel Aerospace Industries.

The JMR-TD tender is the more exciting challenge among advanced rotary technology in so many years. Anxious to see the developments on the Sikorsky-Boeing SB-1 Defiant.

DefExpo 2016: Foreign OEMS want to join Indian rotary club – News – Shephard

Few countries in the world have such huge helicopter requirements and although contracting processes in India take very long time, eventually choppers will be procured and operated in the Indian Subcontinent.
The “Buy and Make in India” policy implies that in order to win these contracts international helicopter OEMs will have to relinquish some of their industrial prerogatives. No matter if they chose to have manufacturing licensed locally, to establish an Indian production plant, or to enter into any sort of agreements with the Indian Public or Private sector. The end result will always be that a big chunk of the helicopters value chain will remain in India.
Obviously traditional OEM’s Tier 1-2 suppliers will be dramatically affected. Their products and systems may be replaced by others produced in India, or they might be requested by the OEM’s to contribute discharging offset credits in country.
At the end of the game, if the many SMEs that support helicopter operations internationally want to retain part of their business, they better start right away pursuing their own “Buy and Make in India” strategy. Food for thought.

Helicopter Industry Pulls Out All the Stops to Capture Eastern European Market – Blog

Sandra Erwin has well synthesized the East European helicopter opportunities and captured the essence of the market sensitivities: a mixture of operational requirements, industrial participation desires and geo-political drivers.

Cooperation with small- to medium-sized European enterprises will be instrumental for foreign OEMs in order to achieve the required local support and make helicopter procurement deals more acceptable to local constituencies and power lobbies.
